Collateral victims of a cyber attack, several websites in the Côtes-d'Armor department have been inaccessible since Monday, May 15. This incident was caused by a cyber attack targeting Group DIS, a hosting and managed services specialist based in Lille. Other clients of this company are also affected, as well as the digital service providers who utilize the services of the hosting company.
The attack has been claimed by the hacker group ALPHV, specializing in ransomware attacks, which involve encrypting data and demanding a ransom to restore access. ALPHV explains that they have not received a response from Group DIS and threatens to release the data of its clients. ALPHV claims to have obtained 4 terabytes of data, including 1 terabyte of data concerning Lacroix Electronics. On Monday, May 15, the French electronic component manufacturer closed three production sites in France, Germany, and Tunisia, with hopes of reopening them next week.
The ALPHV gang is recognized as a prominent ransomware threat that targets businesses globally. In April, the FBI issued a warning about ALPHV, highlighting their extensive networks and expertise in ransomware operations. They have successfully infiltrated more than 60 organizations worldwide between November 2021 and March 2022.
